Protective glasses

This eye protector made of gilded copper bears turquoise and coral ornaments. Its strongly closing shape was designed to protect the eyes from sand and dust, and is reminiscent of the goggles of the first car drivers and pilots in the occident. The transparent lenses offer no protection against snow and its blinding glare, against which the Tibetans traditionally use protective devices made of yak hair. The quality of the object and the elaborate decoration indicate that this object was intended for an important personality or a wealthy person.
