Longchenpa (1308-1364) – A great teacher of the Nyingma tradition
Longchenpa (1308-1364), also known as Longchen Rabjam Trimé Öser “Immaculate Rays of Light of Infinite Space,” was an important teacher of the Nyingma tradition, the ancient school of Tibetan Buddhism, who systematized the teachings of that school in his compilation the Seven Treasures. He was also a foremost master of the Dzogchen practice, the “Great Perfection,” a special tradition proper to the Nyingma and the Bön.
Sitting legs crossed on a lotus pedestal with both hands resting on his knees, Longchenpa appears as a fully ordained monk, head shaved and clad in the triple monastic robes.
