Nomad on the high plateau of northern Amdo, February 1995
Covered in a pelisse and a chuba, wearing a Russian-style fur ushanka, this smiling nomad seems unaffected by the cold that seems to reign on this desolate snow-covered plain. Yet winter is a harsh time of year for the nomads and their herds. Normally, men and animals spend the winter in solid camps to be better protected from the cold. Although the climate is harsher, the work is less strenuous than in summer, giving the nomads a relative rest.
