Namasangiti

Namasangiti is seated in the diamond attitude (vajraparyankasana) on a single lotus pedestal. The twelve-armed bodhisattva displays various mudras with his hands. He is clad with a cloth tied around the waist with a belt and a shawl is placed over the shoulders. Namasangiti wears ornaments, namely a crown in front of a helmet with some curled strands of hair falling on the shoulders, a pair of earrings, a necklace with pendants, and ornaments at the upper arms, wrists and feet. Note the small effigy of Amitabha held by the lowest pair of arms.

Namasangiti is one of the important manifestations of Manjushri, the embodiment of wisdom of all the Buddhas. It is said that Namasangiti Manjushri was already enlightened countless aeons ago. Nevertheless, during the historical buddha Shakyamuni’s time he appeared as one of his eight chief bodhisattva disciples.
