Buddha Shakyamuni
He is seated in the diamond attitude (vajraparyankasana) on a circular double lotus pedestal. He extends his right hand in the gesture of charity (varada-mudra), and with the left hand he holds the edge of his monastic robe. The monastic garments of Buddha images of this region sometimes cover both shoulders and at times, only the left shoulder. The face with the full lips reveals influence by the Northern Indian Gupta styles, rather than Gandharan influence.
Note the donor of this statue kneeling beside the lotus pedestal. The constricted lotus pedestal represents a typical feature of this style attributed to the Swat Valley Region, which extended from there to the Upper Indus Valley and possibly even further north.
