Altar ornament

This rare hanging ornament, embossed in repoussé technique, is partly mercury-gilt and partly painted. It shows alternating images of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni seated in meditation and erect vajras standing on lotus flowers. All are placed alternating within circular vine scrolls. The rim is decorated with a pearl frieze and stylised leaf motifs.
