Ratnasambhava - "born of the jewel", one of the five jinas

Ratnasambhava appears in majesty, seated in meditation on a lotus throne. His right hand is extended in the gesture of generosity, while his left rests in contemplation in his lap. Young and handsome, he is richly adorned with the jewels and silk garments befitting divine manifestations. Of the five transcendent Buddhas or Jinas, he is the southern Buddha, the lord of the jewel family, and his skin is the colour of gold. He transmutes the spiritual poison of pride, for he manifests the consciousness of the essential equality of all beings. This statue is both a technical and aesthetic masterpiece, which is evident in the detail of the jewellery and the silver and copper inlays in the lips, the eyes and some of the ornaments.
