A bearded hermit rests in the attitude of royal ease (rajalilasana) inside a rocky mountain cave. With the right hand he holds a rosary and in the left hand a staff. In front of the cave stands a tree covered with leaves, flowers and fruits. On the left side of the entrance rests a bird attentively watching the hermit. Tibetan stone sculptures are very popular with collectors and nowadays often copied. However, this stone carving appears to be an authentic work of circa the 16th century.
